Chile's small textile sector only imported 55,683 480-pound bales of cotton in 2006/07. This total represented a 19.1 percent year-on-year decline and was the smallest import volume since 2003/04 when imports totaled 53,079 bales. The bulk of the imports came from the U.S. at 47,703 480-pound bales. Chile has a small cotton-spinning industry that heavily focuses on denim production.
